2019 NHL Draft Profile - Trevor Zegras

June 20, 2019

By James Murphy /

Former Mid-Fairfield Jr. Rangers center Trevor Zegras has been soaring up the draft rankings of multiple NHL teams thanks to a great performance at the NHL Combine two weeks ago.

On June 19, in a mock draft generated by Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino, Zegras has the potential of being selected third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.

[Chicago's] pick has been rumored to go a number of ways, and the latest name to gain traction is Zegras, noted Cosentino. A well above-average playmaking centre, Zegras comes to the table with confidence and swagger.

Zegras, 18, scored 26 goals and had 61 assists in 60 games played for the U.S. National Under-18 team this season. The 6-foot, 174-pound Bedford, N.Y., native is headed to Boston University next season. In pre-draft rankings, he is ranked as high as fifth (HockeyProspects) and as low as 14th (EliteProspects). NHL Central Scouting ranks him sixth among North American Skaters, a small improvement from his midterm ranking (7th).

Prior to joining the USNTDP, Zegras played for Mid-Fairfield at the youth and 16U level.

The NHL Draft will take place June 21-22, 2019 at the Rodgers Center in Vancouver, B.C.
